How to Choose a Physician

  • Consult with a Physician
  • Often patients will hear of a treatment and become interested in it. However the best thing to do if you are looking to improve your skin is consult with an expert in skin care who has access to all of the available treatments now in use. It is very difficult to know, as a patient, if a particular treatment will deliver the results you are looking for.

Before having any chemical peel, it's important to know if a peel is the right treatment for the problems you have. Peels are good at improving certain conditions, however there may be a superior treatment for what ails you.

    Some questions to consider are:

    1. Are you a board-certified physician?
    2. Is there a board-certified physician of any kind in the office?
    3. Do you have the ability to use lasers as well as chemical peels?
    4. Are you going to be able to advise me on what topical regiment I should use following treatment? (By the way, sunscreen is key. It doesn’t make any sense to treat your skin for aging if you aren’t going to protect your skin from the sun, which is the cause of almost all the aging we see.)
    5. How much experience do you have at performing chemical peels?
    6. How high a concentration are you using for the peel?
    7. Are there alternative treatments which may be more effective than a peel for my skin?
    8. What’s your medical specialty? (dermatology, family medicine, etc.)
    9. Do you have any references? Before and After photos?

    Consult with a Physician

Ideally a patient will consult with a physician with access to a wide range of treatments, including chemical peels. This will help you find a treatment that will deliver a satisfactory result.
